Shrine of Saint Joseph

This is not the official Web site of the Shrine of Saint Joseph. It will be found at http://www.shrineofstjoseph.org. There you can find more photos, and a fascinating account of the history and restoration of this magnificent church.

The Shrine of Saint Joseph has stood at the corner of 11th and Biddle in north Saint Louis since 1844. It has been adapted through the years, and a major restoration began in the 1970s. The 1890 George Pfeffer pipe organ, whose tracker mechanism and operating console can be seen among these photographs, was restored by the Martin Ott company in 2002. Thanks to Ralph Ellerbrock, who has been playing here since 1946, for the tour.

These photos are selected from 70 that were made on the afternoon of 14 May 2006, during the church's open house. They have been reduced in size and quality in the interests of bandwidth conservation. The 6 megapixel originals, suitable for printing in sizes up to about 20 by 30 inches, are available at no charge for personal use and for any use that benefits the church.
